Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a non-secreted pro-inflammatory cytokine produced primarily by activated macrophages as well as neutrophils, epithelial cells and endothelial cells. Measured by a cell proliferation assay using mouse D10S cells, the ED50 is < 10.0 pg/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1.0 × 10⁸ units/mg.
